HELLA CHOLLA
ON STAGE: 10.00
Hannah and Will write songs.

She sings them.
He plays guitar

People watch and listen and dance.

Hella Cholla is based around the girl/boy songwriting duo of Hannah Yadi and Will Betts.

Hannah’s killer sense of rhythm (both melodically and physically – this girl can move!) makes her an almighty force onstage and off. Combine that with her effortless stage presence, unrelenting energy and outrageous beauty and you’ve got quite the little showstopper on your hands! Her witty lyrics and comic rapport with an audience (born out of her work with comedy group Revue, not to mention her own ubiquitous wit) have gripped many an unwitting listener. While the boys lust and the girls dance, the sense of something special happening hangs in the air.

All of this is enhanced with the quasi-geek charm of Mr Will Betts. A natural storyteller and brilliant musician, he is the nuts…and bolts of the whole thing; he’s the production wizard, guitar maestro and lyrical wordsmith (yes, they’re both at it!) that drives Hella Cholla to new unchartered heights. His fascination in the English language permeates his work throughout, and with his playful personality in tow, it’s impossible to resist his charms. Let’s leave the adjectives for now with the fact that his hair is, also, magnificent.

Falling in love with these two is inevitable.

JONATHAN BEN
ON STAGE: 8.40

Jonathan has been making and performing music since the age of 15 as a vocalist, guitarist and bassist. In recent years he has played with two different bands on the Bristol and Bath circuit, as well as working professionally as a solo performing artist.

Since moving to London, Jonathan’s emergence as a real writing talent is shown in the maturity of his songs. This is combined with an ability to reach audiences with the integrity of his performances. As one promoter wrote, “...he really connected with the audience and his songs were poignant and memorable.”

Jonathan is currently working hard to establish himself as one of the most talked-about singer-songwriters on the circuit today.

SMILING KNIFE
ON STAGE: 8.00
We are Smiling Knife, an all female trio, (with occasional guests) and we've just completed our debut album, Mummy Provides

It’s hard to categorise our sound as we've a few thumbs (6 between us) in a fair few pies, but if you had to label us 'indie/folk/pop-noir' would probably stick; adding the tag 'chillout'. Our songs are usually dark stories told in pretty harmonic tunes. They can take you from the mean streets of the city to the banks of the river Seine”

We, Samantha Carpenter, Justine Barker and Beverley Goacher have been friends for eons but Smiling Knife was born in a skanky rehearsal room in 2005. We took to the stage playing the South London and Brighton open mic circuit cultivating a small but die hard following on the way.

We are proud to admit our appeal is a little quirky, we love being in this band and we want to share the fun and the music. Come and see us live. We promise to entertain.
