ED LAURIE
Already a cult hero in the digital realm, London-born Ed Laurie draws upon his colourful heritage to produce a new English sound with an international flair. Ed and his band blend elements of gypsy, flamenco, and 70's psych-folk creating magical realism for the ears. Ed's made the Top Ten in the iTunes European album charts and is quickly making his mark on the US thanks to repeated airplay of his most recent demos on Chris Douridas' LA-based KCRW New Ground show, which has half a million listeners daily. And word is traveling fast - Ed boasts over 80,000 song plays and 50,000 profile views on myspace.com/edlaurie!
Ed paints an exotic landscape with his unmistakable baritone and Mediterranean-tinged rhythms picked out on a nylon-stringed guitar accompanied by cello, double bass, trumpet, piano and percussion. Think the child of folk singer Cesaria Evora if she was involved in a bizarre love-in with Sufjan Stevens, Leonard Cohen and novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Touring nationally and internationally, Ed has been promoting the release of his iTunes-released mini-album Meanwhile In The Park while supporting Mercury nominee Lou Rhodes, Teddy Thompson, Sophie Barker of Zero 7, Candie Payne and Kid Harpoon. He is currently working on his debut full-length LP Small Boat Big Sea and is planning European and US tours for 2008. Ed will be making his In The City debut in October after being handpicked to perform at the renowned music industry showcase by the In The City panel themselves!
Here's what the critics have to say:
"When people talk of 'modern classics,' this is the kind of thing they mean. Outstanding." -Play Music Magazine (Demo of the Month)
